A faecal egg count (FEC) is a test that identifies and quantifies internal parasite eggs in manure samples. By measuring eggs per gram (EPG) of faeces, this test helps assess the level of worm infestation and monitor the effectiveness of deworming programs. Regular FEC testing supports targeted treatment, reduces unnecessary deworming, and helps prevent parasite resistance.

Strongyle Type, Ascarid, Caecal Worm, Capillary Worm, Gapeworm, and Tapeworm eggs
When to test:
- At 6-8 weeks old, then every 3-6 months
- Before introducing new birds
- If your birds show clinical signs like poor growth, diarrhoea, or reduced egg production
Who to test:
- Young chicks
- New introductions to a flock
- Free range birds
- Flocks in high stocking rate environments
