Paragon Scientific Expands Testing Range to Support More Animals

Paragon Scientific has expanded its testing services to include a wider range of animals and parasite types, marking another step forward in supporting evidence-based parasite management to animal owners across South Africa.

What began with Faecal Egg Counts (FECs) and Fluke testing for equines has grown into a comprehensive offering that now includes multiple test types for horses, livestock, poultry, and even rabbits.

A Full Suite of Tests Across More Species

The expanded testing range now includes:

  • Faecal Egg Counts (FECs): Horse, Donkey, Pony, Sheep, Goat, Cow, Chicken

  • Fluke Tests: Horse, Donkey, Pony, Sheep, Goat, Cow, Chicken

  • Pinworm Tests: Horse, Donkey, Pony, Rabbit

  • Sand Tests: Horse, Donkey, Pony

  • Lungworm Tests: Horse, Donkey, Pony, Sheep, Goat, Cow

  • Coccidia Tests: Horse, Donkey, Pony, Sheep, Goat, Cow, Chicken, Rabbit

With these additions, Paragon Scientific can now assist a much broader client base – from horse owners and farmers to smallholders and poultry keepers – helping them monitor parasite levels and manage treatments more effectively.

“We’ve had growing demand from clients who keep a variety of animals and wanted the same reliable testing options across their herds and flocks,” said Mel, founder of Paragon Scientific. “Expanding our test range allows us to give them that – accurate information they can act on, all from one trusted source.”

From Equines to the Entire Yard

Until recently, Paragon Scientific’s services focused solely on FECs and Fluke testing for horses, donkeys, and ponies. The new test range now covers species including sheep, goats, cattle, chickens, and rabbits, reflecting the company’s commitment to supporting responsible parasite control for all animals.

“Many of our clients keep more than one type of animal,” Mel added. “Offering testing for different species means they can manage everything in one place – saving time, improving health, and reducing unnecessary treatments.”

Growing to Meet Demand

This service expansion follows the recent opening of Paragon Scientific’s new laboratory in Paarl, a space designed to handle greater sample volumes and streamline testing processes. The improved capacity allows the team to maintain the same personal service and attention to detail while taking on a wider variety of samples.

Smart Testing for Better Animal Health

By testing first and treating only when necessary, owners can reduce chemical resistance, improve animal wellbeing, and manage costs more effectively. Each of Paragon Scientific’s tests is designed to provide practical insights that help guide responsible parasite control

“Whether it’s a single horse, a flock of chickens, or a mixed farm, testing gives owners the confidence to make informed decisions,” said Mel. “That’s what this expansion is all about – giving every client access to the tools they need to keep their animals healthy.”
